Israelis are suffering from profiteering plumbers and the government is encouraging a fix-it-yourself program to reduce the citizens’ dependence on craftsmen who overcharge for their services, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced today. It said research into the practices of the plumbing trade showed that prices could be reduced by an average of 30 percent and still yield a profit in relation to costs. The Ministry said it would soon publish a manual instructing householders how to fix their fixtures without professional help.
