Israel’s Nobel Laureate, S.Y. Agnon remained in a serious condition in a Jerusalem hospital today following his collapse in his home on Tuesday. Hospital authorities said he was losing consciousness from time to time and was allowed no visitors except members of his family. Mr. Agnon, who will be 81 July 18, was co-winner of the 1966 Nobel Prize for literature.
He was discovered unconscious in his home in the Talpiot section of Jerusalem when neighbors, who thought his house was “too quiet,” summoned police. Mr. Agnon’s wife became ill several days ago and was staying at her daughter’s home at the time.
