Gen. Moshe Dayan, Israel’s Defense Minister, attributes the slackening in recent days of Egyptian ground and air activity along the Suez Canal to the series of recent Israeli Air Force blows against the Arab positions and the destruction of Egyptian planes.

He said in a television interview today that the Egyptians were convinced that they cannot gain air supremacy and that they cannot wage a successful offensive against Israeli positions dug in on the Canal’s east bank.

The lull in fighting however, does not mean that local action will not continue. But Israeli Air Force damage to ground installations and positions affected the Egyptians’ effort to exert pressure on Israel’s line, Gen. Dayan asserted.
