Israel’s irritation with the way the British Broadcasting Corp. handles news from the Middle East on radio and television was made official yesterday when Ambassador Aharon Remez called on Charles Curran, director general of the BBC. Mr. Remez was accompanied by Moshe Arad, first secretary of the Israel Embassy in charge of press relations. Mr. Curran had on hand several ranking members of the BBC news staff.
Israel has complained that the BBC treats Arab claims of military victories in a straightforward manner on its newscasts without checking their authenticity. The BBC has also been accused by Israelis of being unfair and misleading in its reports of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Ambassador Remez cited a number of specific instances in his conversation with Mr. Curran who is reported to have said he was prepared to investigate the charges.
