Trade between Israel and Australia is increasing rapidly according to figures released here by the Australian Government. Israel bought $2,200,000 worth of goods from Australia between 1964 and 1966 and sold Australia $3.560,000 worth of goods in 1968. Australia’s purchase of Israeli diamonds alone last year equalled the sum of Israel’s 1964 exports to this country which was $1,100,000.
Australia’s Minister for Trade and Industry J. McEwen announced last week that Australia would participate for the first time in an Israeli international trade fair which will open in Tel Aviv next May. According to W. J. Aston, Speaker of Australia’s House of Representatives, the Australian exhibit will consist of export products including agricultural machinery. There are at least 80 companies in Australia representing Israeli firms and Israel’s national shipping company the Zim Lines, maintains a monthly cargo service to Australian ports.
