The heaviest Soviet naval traffic since the Six-Day War in 1967 passed through the Turkish straits today into the Mediterranean, presumably headed for Port Said. Observers noted that the ships carried unusually large amounts of anti-aircraft equipment.

The Soviet ships included the 25,000 ton helicopter carrier, Moskva, which has two systems of antiaircraft missile launchers and a complement of 30 helicopters. Observers reported a cruiser, a destroyer and a fleet tanker. Turkish port authorities said today that they expected more Soviet units.
