The neo-Nazi National Democratic Party suffered a setback in its drive to win seats in the West German Parliament when it failed in legal efforts to compel German newspapers to publish its political advertising. Many German newspapers have refused to take the NPD election advertising, including announcements of NPD political rallies.
In an effort to compel the press to give it access to the electorate, the NPD sued a newspaper in Doppingen but the court there refused to order the newspaper to publish the advertisements offered by NPD. The Interior Ministry said yesterday that under this decision, a local independent paper could not be made to accept advertising from political parties if the paper was opposed to them politically.
