A spokesman for the State Department today deplored continuing violence in the Middle East and said it was “high time” for the nations involved to cool off.
Spokesman Carl Bartch said, “We believe it is high time those countries involved in these continuing and destructive cease-fire violations recognize the inevitably grim consequences for all concerned.” He said, “There is need for reason and prudence to prevail.”
The spokesman noted that incidents continue to heighten tensions and cause more deaths. He said the United States had urged restraint on both sides continuously and again in this week’s violence.
