Israeli jets continued to pound Egyptian installations on the west shore of the Gulf of Suez today. They also flew a sortie over Jordan to silence guerrillas who attacked an Israeli patrol in the Beisan Valley with bazooka and automatic fire this morning. All planes were reported to have returned safely.

The Egyptian target was Rass Zaafarana, some 90 miles south of Port Suez. Almost daily attacks by Israeli aircraft have prevented the Egyptians from repairing their radar installations and fortifications heavily damaged in an amphibious raid by Israeli tank and armored forces Sept. 9.

But that attack and the subsequent air raids on the Gulf coast have not succeeded in tranquilizing the Suez Canal front where 83 Egyptian cease-fire violations occurred last week. An Israeli soldier was killed in an exchange of fire yesterday south of the Bitter Lake. One soldier was wounded in that incident and another was wounded this morning when Egyptian artillery shelled an Israeli patrol in the same area.

Five Israeli border policemen were wounded today when their patrol was attacked with hand grenades and automatic weapons near Hebron. Their injuries were described as slight.

(An Arab guerrilla broadcast in Cairo today said Lebanese Army tanks and armored cars have been besieging Palestinian refugee camps since Monday. The broadcast urged Lebanese to join hands with the guerrillas in the struggle against Lebanese “counter-revolutionary forces.”)
