A time bomb was removed from the cloak room in the West Berlin Jewish community center Monday before it exploded. The bomb was dismantled by police who said it consisted of explosive sticks connected to an alarm clock. Heinz Galinski, head of the Berlin Jewish community, called the incident “very serious” and indicated that Arab groups might be responsible. Police said they had no clues.
The bomb was found by a cleaning man and was wrapped in a trench coat. The 31st anniversary of “Crystal Night,” when the Nazis burned synagogues throughout Germany, was marked in a ceremony at the Center on Sunday night. Last week anti-Jewish slogans were found marked on a former synagogue site and on a memorial to Nazi victims.
