The chairman of the West Berlin Jewish Community described a recent bombing attempt of the community center here as “the gravest incident against German Jews since 1945.” Heinz Galinski claimed today that the planting of a bomb, which was discovered in the community center synagogue, and other recent anti-Semitic actions were not the work of individual cranks but part of a carefully planned assault on Jews by fanatic groups. Three youths were being held in the bombing case.
Mr. Galinski said he was disappointed by the “weak” public reaction to the incident. He deplored the “silence” of church leaders, politicians and trade unionists and especially “certain intellectual circles” who at other times were quick to demonstrate. Mr. Galinski however cited a number of letters from German workers and others who sympathized with the Jewish community.
