Leaders of the Labor Alignment are considering the appointment of an Arab deputy minister. The question was raised by 50 Arab members of Histadrut at a meeting with the Speaker of the Knesset, Reuben Barkat. They observed that the Independent Liberal faction with four members in the Knesset has one Cabinet minister and one deputy minister while the Arab List, also with four members, has none. They suggested that a Druze MK, Jaber Maadi, be made Deputy ministry of Agriculture or Police. Another Arab faction however wants a Moslem Arab rather a Druze to be appointed.
