The United Nations’ special committee to study human rights in the territories occupied by Israel announced yesterday that it will go to the Middle East on March 30 and will visit the territories late April. Israel in the past has refused to admit the committee because of the UN’s refusal to instruct it to study the treatment of Jews in Arab countries. The announcement said, “The special committee has scheduled a visit to the occupied territories following its hearings in Cairo, which are expected to conclude by April 22. It continues to hope that the government of Israel will cooperate in making this visit feasible in line with the General Assembly’s mandate to the committee.”
