The commander of Israel’s Air Force believes that the threat posed by Soviet SAM-3 missiles in Egypt can be mastered. “We study everything possible about the SAM-3s and we shall be able to tackle them when the need arises,” Gen. Mordechai Hod said in an article published yesterday in the Air Force periodical. “I do not think it will be a greater problem than we have faced in the past,” he wrote. Gen. Hod disclosed that Israeli experts have introduced some modifications in the U.S. supersonic F-4 Phantom jet fighter-bombers to make them more suitable to Israeli Air Force needs. He said additional modifications might be made. Gen. Hod said that Israel has made modifications in all combat aircraft acquired abroad.
