The Executive Board of the Massachusetts State Labor Council, AFL-CIO, representing over 500,000 trade unionists In the Bay State, voted at its monthly session to call on President Nixon and Secretary of State William P. Rogers “to allow Israel to purchase the necessary airplanes and weapons from us for her defense and survival.” The resolution, which was passed unanimously, was introduced by Secretary-Treasurer James P. Loughlin at the request of the Boston office of the Jewish Labor Committee. Expressing “concern and alarm” over “the operational involvement of Soviet military personnel in the Middle East conflict,” the message to administration officials expressed the belief that “it is vital that our government should utilize every available diplomatic means and channel to press for the withdrawal of all Soviet troops and military advisors from the Middle East as an essential first step toward world peace.”
