A spokesman for the American Joint Distribution Committee in Israel told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today that the JDC Malben Organization in Israel is now responsible for 10 old-age homes. Senior citizens of both sexes and of many origins – from Russia, Poland, Rumania, Yugoslavia, Turkey, Germany. Bokhara and France are living in these homes. The spokesman went on to say that the average age of the residents was about 80 although there are some 90 and over. JDC Malben is also responsible for a hospital with 2,800 beds and for a number of other services. Its total budget over the 20 years of its existence has been the equivalent of $170 million. The spokesman added: “As the JDC Malben launches its third decade, it continues to minister to the needs of the newcomers while simultaneously accelerating its programs for the overall population in the areas where the human need is greatest – the care of the aged, chronically ill, mentally sick and handicapped.
