The government has announced that it will expropriate about 2700 acres of land in Jerusalem for development purposes and promised “liberal compensation” to the present owners. Most of the area concerned lies in the former Jordanian sector of Jerusalem and is sparsely inhabited. The government said there were some 350 Jewish and 20 Arab families in the zone which has been ear-marked for a long term development project. The major part of the expropriated land will be utilized for housing and public parks.
