Moscow’s Chief Rabbi to Elizabeth Rabbi: Four Cartons of Religious Objects Received

Rabbi Pinchas Teitz. Orthodox rabbinical leader, reported he had received a telegram from the Moscow Chief Rabbi, acknowledging receipt of four cartons of religious objects the Elizabeth rabbi shipped to Moscow by Aeroflot. the Soviet airline. The cartons contained prayer shawls, phylacteries, mezzuzahs and similar ritual items, all reportedly in short supply in the Soviet Union. Rabbi Teitz said that cartons were sent three weeks ago and that the telegram, in Hebrew, he had received from Rabbi Levin, was dated Aug. 19. Rabbi Teitz said the cartons were the fifth shipment he has sent to Rabbi Levin during the past three years. He said he had been informed that each of the first four shipments had been received by Rabbi Levin but that this was the first time a shipment had been formally confirmed by the Chief Rabbi.
