Sacher: Israel Hard Pressed to Meet Social Needs Due to Increased Defense Burdens

The head of a Joint Palestine Appeal mission to Israel said here that Israel was harder pressed than ever to meet the social needs of its populace owing to unprecedented defense burdens and that “constitutes the challenge facing diaspora Jewry.” According to Michael M. Sacher. chairman of the JPA’s administrative committee, American loans do not ease the burden on Israeli taxpayers because they are credited against arms deliveries to Israel.
