The president of the Association of Jews From Eastern Europe has launched an appeal to all French political parties, trade unions and democratic associations to intervene on behalf of the Jewish defendants facing death in a Leningrad court. Solomon Friedrich has contacted a number of top French political leaders and asked them to intervene on behalf of the defendants. Many of them, including some members of the present Cabinet, have promised their support. Some among them, it is understood, have reportedly already written to the Kremlin to inform the Soviet leaders of the shock felt in the West over the trial. Meanwhile, however, the French press has barely taken notice of the case, with few reports on it and practically no comment.
