A plan to draft Orthodox girls of military age for auxiliary health services, was announced yesterday by Health Minister Victor Shemtov in the Knesset. Orthodox girls are exempted from military service and related duties if they object to it on religious grounds. A similar plan offered 15 years ago prompted an outcry from the religious establishment and was shelved. Labor Minister Yosef Almogi has disclosed plans to recruit 42,000 11th and 12th grade high school pupils to replace industrial workers if Israel becomes involved in an all-out Middle East war. Almogi said that his plan would allow some 2300 industrial enterprises to continue to function in a national emergency.
