$2000 Fund for Hebrew Language Program Established at University of Utah

Dr. Louis Zucker, University of Utah professor emeritus of English, has established a $2,000 fund for the Hebrew Language Program, to be awarded to outstanding students of Hebrew at the University of Utah. Two annual prizes-The Louis Zucker Prize in Hebrew and the Ethel Zucker Prize in Hebrew-will be awarded to students adjudged the outstanding first and second year scholars in Hebrew. The purpose of the prizes, according to Dr. Zucker, is to help promote “the knowledge of the Jewish experience in its historical length and breadth and of the various forms of expression of the Jewish genius.” Dr. Zucker taught at the U. of Utah since 1928, becoming professor emeritus of English in 1963. He has continued to teach Judaics since then. Dr. Zucker earned his B.A. and M. A. degrees at the University of Pennsylvania and his Ph.D. degree in 1928 at the University of Wisconsin.
