Israeli Scientists Seeking Answer to Challenge Posed by Soviet Weapons in Egypt

Israeli scientists are working around the clock to provide “technological answers” to the challenges posed by sophisticated Soviet weapons in Egyptian hands, according to Dr. Zeev Bonnen, head of “Rafael,” the authority dealing with the development of military equipment. In an interview published in the Technion Weekly, Bonnen said “We shall be able to provide the Israel Army with the right and proper replies to everything the Russians can place before us.” He said the arms development authority worked on highly complicated weapons such as Israel’s new “Gabriel” surface-to-surface sea missile and relatively simple mechanical devices for loading mortar shells. It is also developing electronic armament for planes and sophisticated communications networks.
