Azf Launches Program to Encourage Fairs to Further Israel’s Social Progress

Noting that “there is a great desire by many American Jews to encourage fairs and exhibits that would highlight and further the economic and cultural progress of Israel, as well as encourage tourism,” the president of the American Zionist Federation launched today a program “to do everything possible to aid in their promotion and acceptance by the American public.” It is the AZF’s “proper function,” said Rabbi Israel Miller, to fulfill “the intensified interest in Israel that has developed in the American Jewish community during the past four years” by publicizing the “many items of clothing, food and other products that are seeking American markets.” Mrs. Beatrice G. Weiss, most recently vice president of Israel Communications, Inc., a public relations firm, will direct the AZF’s new Israel Fairs and Exhibits department. She will help arrange fairs and exhibits under the auspices of local Jewish Federations and community centers, synagogues, women’s clubs, fraternal orders and other groups. Mrs. Weiss, president of the Association of Jewish Sponsored Camps and honorary vice chairman of the Jewish National Fund, will seek to schedule art shows, film showings and speeches by government officials at these fairs.
