The Shmuel Hanavi quarter of Jerusalem which just underwent a $350,000 face-lifting to mollify its inhabitants who complained of squalid living conditions, was officially renamed Kiryat Wolfson in honor of the Anglo-Jewish philanthropist Sir Isaac Wolfson, at ceremonies today. The ceremonies were attended by Sir Isaac, Premier Golda Meir and several Cabinet members, including Finance Minister Pinhas Sapir who told the gathering that Sir Isaac contributed $7.2 million to Israel during the last few years. The $350,000 to patch up the quarter was provided by the United Jewish Appeal. The money was used to rehabilitate the houses and to build a new kindergarten and a small park. The quarter is inhabited by large families, mostly of North African and Asian origin. About 10,000 people live in 1500 flats.
