State Department spokesman Robert J. McCloskey said today that the matter of U.S. arms supplies to Israel was discussed by Assistant Secretary of State Joseph J. Sisco with Israeli officials during Sisco’s visit to Israel in July. McCloskey stated that Sisco’s report on these discussions is “under study.” Although the Department spokesman did not mention any names, this abatement during a press briefing was viewed as a reply to Israel Ambassador Itzhak Rabin’s charge yesterday that the .U.S. is delaying supplies of arms to Israel for political reasons.
