Twenty young Jews were arrested tonight after trying to chain themselves to the gates of the Soviet Embassy to mark the arrival in the city of the new Soviet ambassador, M. Abrassimov. The demonstration, on the prestigious Rue de Grenelle, was organized by the Committee of Solidarity With Soviet Jews. Other demonstrators kindled six huge torches symbolizing the six million Jews killed by the Nazis in World War II.
