It was the first flight by Soviet planes within the perimeter controled by the Lydda Airport traffic control tower. Some military sources here said today that the penetration constituted an adverse factor against Israel in the Middle East power balance, Sources here said the data concerning the MIG-23a was of vital importance to the US inasmuch as no American plane in service or production can match the speed and altitude capabilities of the Soviet interceptor.(See separate story P. 3 on US response.)
