Shaare Zedek Hospital Opens Ward for Chronically Ill Aged Patients

A new 22-bed ward for chronically ill aged patients has opened officially at Shaare Zedek Hospital here with ceremonies attended by Health Minister Victor Shemtov. Mayor Teddy Kollek and Louis Broido, chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee. Broido said the new ward marked a major step forward in the JDC-Malben plan to help provide Israel with a professionally organized national system of care for long term patients. JDC-Malben contributed $120,000 toward the cost of the ward at Shaare Zedek. The Association for the Planning and Development of Services for the Aged, of which JDC-Malben is a major partner, will provide $288,000 toward the cost of a 60-bed ward being built for the chronically ill at Tel Hashomer Hospital in Tel Aviv.
