A resolution calling upon the Nixon administration to grant tax credits to parents of children attending non-public schools was adopted by acclamation at the 49th national convention of Agudath Israel of America. The confab was attended this weekend by 1,500 Orthodox Jewish leaders. Rabbi Moshe Sherer, executive president of Agudath Israel lauded Nixon for “establishing a special department for the non-public school by the federal government.”
The convention also expressed “extreme shock and concern” over the newspaper reports that a group of Russian Jewish immigrants have decided to return from Israel to Russia because of their alleged dissatisfaction with the manner in which the Israel government is caring for their religious needs. A strongly-worded resolution adopted unanimously at the convention called upon the Israel government to “take immediate steps to provide all the necessary religious facilities for the religious Jewish immigrants from Russia…” The convention also adopted a resolution calling upon the US government to increase its military aid for Israel’s security.
