Northern Ireland’s Jewish Community Not Affected by Current Strife

The bitter strife and bloodshed between Roman Catholics and Protestants in Ulster has had no effect so far on Northern Ireland’s tiny Jewish community which numbers less than 1,000. But according to reports from Belfast, some Jews have become Innocent victims of explosions by virtue of owning shops in the central part of town where most bombings have occurred. Belfast Jews so far have maintained a low profile. Their position was summed up in the story of a Jewish woman doctor who was stopped by members of the Irish Republican Army after midnight. She told them “I am a Jewish doctor.” They asked her, “Are you Roman Catholic Jewish or Protestant Jewish?”
