Howard Rhine, president of the National Jewish Commission on Law and Public Affairs, applauded today the adoption last Friday by the Senate by a vote of 55-0 of an amendment to a pending Human Rights bill that would protect Sabbath observers in employment. The amendment, initially drafted by COLPA vice president Nathan Lewin, would require employers to show that it would cause an unreasonable hardship on their business to hire or retain a Sabbath observer.
