The National Conference on Soviet Jewry reported today that Esther and David Markish, the wife and son of Peretz Markish, the noted Yiddish poet who was killed by Stalin on Aug. 12, 1952, received a “point blank” refusal yesterday from the Ovir to their application to emigrate to Israel. The Markishes have been the focus of a public appeal in the United States by the well-known author, Irving Howe. Mrs. Markish and her son have been trying unsuccessfully to emigrate for several months.
