Four Israelis detained by Jordan, one of them an Arab, were returned today to Israel under the auspices of the International Red Cross. At the same time, Israel returned a Jordanian officer captured two years ago in the El Hamma area while participating in the ambush of Israeli civilian workers. The officer completed a two-year prison term.
Three of the Israelis returned from Jordan were Jews who crossed into Jordan from Eilat during Sept. and Dec. 1971. The Arab entered Jordan from the southern Golan Heights. He had been a watchman at Metullah.
Four Israeli soldiers were injured yesterday when their vehicle hit a mine at El Arish in northern Sinai. The incident was the second in recent days. A soldier and a civilian girl were injured last week when an explosive charge detonated at a highway road stand in the El Arish region.
Israeli security forces are conducting a man-hunt for two Syrian prisoners of war who escaped yesterday from a POW camp in central Israel. A third escapee was captured at the Tel Aviv bus terminal.
There are 44 Syrian POWs in Israel, all captured in various operations since the 1967 Six-Day War. Syria holds three Israeli pilots shot down during the Six-Day War. Israel holds 61 Egyptian POWs.
