Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller today signed the Silverman-Lewis Bill banning all types of elections in New York State on the Jewish Sabbath and holy days of all faiths. The bill was co-sponsored in the State Assembly by Leonard Silverman and Stanley Steingut of New York City. An identical bill in the State Senate was sponsored by Albert B. Lewis of Brooklyn. The new law covers all elections in which city, state or federal monies are involved. The bill in the Senate was approved March 27 by a vote of 52-4. The bill in the Assembly was approved March 15 by a 127-9 vote.
