Meir Giron, a former oil and shipping executive, was named yesterday managing director of the government-owned Netivei Neft oil company by Finance Minister Pinhas Sapir. He replaces Mordechai Friedman who resigned last week. Giron was formerly managing director of Zim, Israel’s national shipping company. Before that he headed the Haifa oil refineries. His experience in both shipping and oil, two related fields, was believed to be one of the reasons for his selection by Sapir. In another move, the Netivei Neft board of directors was enlarged from four to eight members and the company will appoint an internal comptroller.

The Jewish Labor Bund is releasing on May 6 a record of revolutionary songs, “Yiddish Songs of Work and Struggle.” Most of the songs, written at the turn of this century, became popular among Jewish workers who were active in the Jewish labor movement in Eastern Europe.
