Jews In six small towns of the Carpathian region of the Ukraine have organized memorial services and will say kaddish twice a day until May 20 in memory of those Jews killed by the Nazis during World War II, the National Conference on Soviet Jewry reported today. The Conference also said it had just learned that two weeks ago, Raiza Palatnik had been placed in a punishment cell for a seven day period for refusing to work during “subbotnik”–a period when Soviet citizens are sup-posed to volunteer to work without pay.

The deportation hearing for Mrs. Hermine Braunsteiner Ryan was to have resumed today but was put off until Friday. Former prisoners are due to testify against her at the offices of the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service.
