Defense Minister Moshe Dayan approved today a request by the newly elected Township Council of Qalqilya that the West Bank town be connected to the National Electric Network of Israel. Qalqilya faces Kfar Saba on the other side of the pre-1967 demarcation line between Israel and the West Bank.

The introduction of electricity to Qalqilya may become a major impetus to its industrial development, especially in the small craft industry and in the industrialization of its citrus packing houses, which has hitherto been operated on a manual basis.

Only $5,000 registered Jews live in Italy according to a survey prepared and just published in Rome by the Council of Italian Jewish communities. About half live in Rome.
