Five children, whose plans to attend a summer camp were thwarted by the recent flood disasters in Harrisburg and Elmira, were enabled to go ahead with their original plans through special scholarship funds provided by Hadassah and its regional affiliates, Hadassah reported today.
The children were scheduled to go to Camp Tel Yehuda, the national Young Judaea camp in Barryville, New York. However, their families had to alter these plans because of severe financial losses suffered as a result of the floods, Hadassah’s national board voted on an immediate scholarship allocation. The organization’s four branch groups in Northern New Jersey, Brooklyn, Suffolk County and Lower New York State made additional contributions.
The children did arrive at camp even if a bit late in the season, Hadassah officials said. One came with nothing more than the clothes on his back and another, who had shipped his trunk away before the season started, had all of his worldly possessions packed in that trunk.
