Dr. Joachim Prinz, chairman of the Governing Council of the World Jewish Congress, said today that the organization would “cooperate in every possible way” to arouse world opinion against the Soviet Government’s demand for exorbitant visa fees. Dr. Prinz told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that he had been unable to contact Dr. Nahum Goldmann regarding his remarks that raised a storm of protest.
Dr. Prinz said, “The World Jewish Congress is a participant in the international conference presently being held in London to discuss the outrageous Soviet policy of imposing exorbitant taxes on Soviet Jewish intellectuals who wish to emigrate. The WJC, he said, “will cooperate in every possible way with the world Jewish community to urge Jews and Christians to unite to protest against this flagrant violation of the human rights of Soviet citizens and expresses the hope that the unanimous world opinion will convince the Soviet Government of the injustice of its action.”
