Danish police stood guard today over oil refineries and other installations believed to be targets of Arab terrorists. Police also imposed strict controls at all land, sea and air entry points following an alert from West German police sources that terrorists were planning widespread acts of sabotage to back up their demand for the release of three terrorists captured in Munich last week. The three were members of a gang that killed 11 members of Israel’s Olympic team.
According to unconfirmed reports Arab terrorists have already entered Denmark from Germany, among them Leila Khaled, the terrorist who tried unsuccessfully to hijack an El Al plane over Britain two years ago. Miss Khaled, reportedly seen in Holland recently, was the object of a Europe-wide alert to airlines and airport authorities last week.
KID GLOVE TREATMENT OF TERRORISTS SCORED
Danish police yesterday evacuated the Imperial Hotel which houses the Egyptian Embassy after receiving an anonymous bomb threat. (A new terrorist scare occurred at Olympic Village in Munich last night following reports that shots had been heard near the quarters of the Russian and Moroccan teams. Rumors circulated that one policeman was shot dead and three were wounded. West German police who sealed off the village said later they found no victims.)
The daily Extra-Bladet published an interview with Israeli Foreign Minister Abba Eban today who claimed that the “kid glovs” handling of terrorists by Western European countries, including the Scandinavian, permits them to continue their activities. He said Israel was convinced that European-based Palestinian information offices were aiding the terrorists and advised the Danish authorities to adopt stringent security measures. “In modern history only Nazism can compare in its cruelty to the latest crimes committed in Munich,” Eban said.
