The Egyptian Embassy has asked for special police protection when Foreign Minister Hassan el-Zayyat arrives here Sunday for a three-day visit. The Embassy said it has received many threatening telephone calls and letters since the Munich killings and that several of its rear windows have been broken. An Embassy spokesman said, “We have informed Scotland Yard of these incidents and have been told that certain special security precautions are being taken.”
Meanwhile, the British Zionist Federation expressed the hope today that “the occasion of the Egyptian Foreign Minister’s visit to this country may be utilized to express the concern of the British government in connection with Arab terrorism, and to ask that the Egyptian government withdraw all support from terrorist organizations.”
Three members of the Labor Friends of Israel–Edward Short, Richard Crossman and Dr. Maurice Miller–sent a telegram in a similar vein to Foreign Secretary Sir Alec Douglas-Home today. They urged him to make clear to Zayyat that if British relations with Egypt are to improve, Egypt must first cease condoning the Arab terrorists.
