Mrs. Max N. Matz-kin, president of Hadassah, wired President Nixon today urging that he “recommend withholding more favored nation status and the granting of large scale loans or credits to the Soviet Union until the education tax levied on would-be immigrants and other acts of intimidation and harassment of Jewish citizens of the USSR are stopped and ask you to make this position known to the leaders of the Soviet Union and to the American people.”
Mrs. Matzkin also stated that Hadassah “shares your hope that an East-West detente will further world peace. We hold that closer relations with the Soviet Union cannot be separated from flagrant and abhorrent abuse of human rights without sacrificing American moral values and encouraging further violations.”
