Allon to Address UJA Conference

Yigal Allon, Israel’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Culture, will deliver the main address at the closing banquet of the 1973 United Jewish Appeal National Conference Dec. 9, Paul Zuckerman, UJA General Chairman announced today. More than 3000 Jewish leaders from more than 250 American communities will attend the Conference December 8-9, to launch the 1973 Israel Emergency Fund and National UJA Campaign in support of the United Israel Appeal, Inc., American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC). United HIAS Service and the New York Association for New Americans.

The Conference will open Friday morning with a review of UJA supported programs by Leon Dulzin, treasurer of the Jewish Agency for Israel, and Edward Ginsberg, chairman of the JDC and UJA president. The afternoon program includes an address on the plight of Soviet Jewry by Dr. Allen Pollack, American Professors for Peace in the Middle East.

A series of concurrent seminars in immigration, absorption, education and the JDC will be led by Gottlieb Hammer, executive vice-chairman, United Israel Appeal, Inc.; Samuel L. Haber. executive vice-chairman, JDC; Uzi Narkiss, director-general, Immigration and Absorption, Jewish Agency; and Moshe Yakir, director of Immigration, Jewish Agency.

Elie Wiesel will speak on Saturday afternoon at an Oneg Shabbat sponsored by UJA’s National Women’s Division, Wiesel will interpret “The Meaning of Munich,” Zuckerman said. A special multi-media presentation, in commemoration of Israel’s 25th anniversary, is planned for the closing banquet.
