Eban to Visit Several African States

Foreign Minister Abba Eban will visit several African states in the near future in an effort to strengthen Israel’s position on that continent following a string of diplomatic setbacks there recently, it was disclosed here today.

No dates have been set for his tour. The Foreign Ministry is said to be considering which countries Eban should visit. No itinerary has been announced. The Foreign Minister will go to Belgium Jan. 30 to sign a Common Market protocol.

Minister of Agriculture Chaim Gvati left this morning for Monrovia, Liberia, and Abidjan, Ivory Coast, on what he described as a “good will mission.” Gvati is expected to meet Cabinet ministers of the two countries and Israelis working on various projects in Liberia and the Ivory Coast.
