The first Orthodox rabbinical seminary in South America has started to function here as a “kollel,” an institute of higher learning, to prepare rabbis and spiritual leaders for Central and South American communities. The head of the seminary is Rabbi Aryleh Levin, a well-known Talmudist, a native Argentinian, who studied in the Ponevich Yeshiva in Bnei Brak in Israel for 18 years. The seminary is housed in a modern building and students are accepted from all Spanish-speaking countries. Scholarships will be granted to those who distinguish themselves in their studies. There is an acute shortage of Orthodox rabbis in this area and the institute is seen as a vital contribution to religious life.
