The French government said today that “under current circumstances it cannot form an opinion” on Israel’s charges that Libyan Mirages are now based in Egypt. French government spokesman Joseph Comiti said that Israel has furnished “no proof as to its charges” and we have obtained “no confirmation concerning these rumors.”

Comiti, who was speaking at the end of the regular Cabinet session which had been attended by President Georges Pompidou, said France had asked Libya and Egypt to confirm or deny these reports. The Minister added that Asher Ben Natan, the Israeli Ambassador in Paris, has not yet asked to meet Foreign Minister Michel Jobert. “I am sure that he will ask for a meeting soon, ” Comiti said.
