Lod Airport was under tight security tonight as the hijacked Japanese Airline jumbo jet was reported headed toward Israel after leaving the Persian Gulf sheikdom of Dubai. The latest report here was that the plane was over Iraq.

The Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned that the Japanese government urged Israel tonight to give the highest priority to the lives and safety of the 141 passengers and crew aboard the plane should it arrive here. Before leaving Dubai the hijackers allowed two elderly hostages to leave the plane.

Defense Minister Moshe Dayan went to Lod to take charge of operations there. Other Cabinet Ministers are waiting with Prime Minister Golda Meir at her home.
