Three ranking Cabinet ministers have turned down a request to appear on Jordan television’s Hebrew program. Requests for interviews were made by Mahmoud Harun, a representative of Amman TV, to Deputy Premier Yigal Allon, Defense Minister Moshe Dayan and Foreign Minister Abba Eban.

Harun, in Israel on a private visit, was himself interviewed on Israeli TV and has met with officials of Israel’s Broadcasting Authority. His request was the first time Israeli leaders have been asked to appear on television in an Arab country. Allon reportedly considered the offer for a full day before deciding to turn it down on grounds that the Amman Hebrew program existed mainly as a means for propagation in Israel.
