Technical education programs for thousands of Israeli veterans of the Yom Kippur War who will hopefully soon be demobilized will be a major focus of discussion at the 1974 National Conference of American ORT Federation which is scheduled here for Jan. 25-27, it was announced by Dr. William Haber, president.

“The ORT network in Israel of 84 technical and vocational schools for both children and adults, with some 50,000 students annually, will, like many other Israeli institutions, have to do considerable rethinking and restructuring of its service programs since the Yom Kippur War,” Dr. Haber said. “Many Israeli youth who were mobilized came right out of high school, over 10,000 of them graduating from the ORT schools only last June. Others, literally hundreds in the ORT technical colleges, interrupted their college careers,” Dr. Haber pointed out. The ORT programs for Jewish communities in 20 other countries will continue, Dr. Haber explained. “But with the greatest number of ORT schools, and the largest part of our budget centered in Israel, we will have to give the highest priority to meeting the challenges that have emerged from the recent conflict,” he stated.
